A contract totalling 16 of the brand new Kenersys K110 2.4MW was inked by the German project developer juwi . The project is expected to be installed till end of 2012 and is the fourth joint project between Kenersys and juwi and the first one on a 145m concrete-steel hybrid tower which is considered the largest commercially available of its kind.

“The new Kenersys K110 2.4MW caters the trend to multi-megawatt turbines especially designed for low wind speed sites, a market segment that will drive the further growth of the wind sector in Europe and many regions in the world”, says Andreas von Bobart and adds: “At higher hub heights you can expect stronger and steadier winds. With a large rotor diameter you can harness a higher Annual Energy Yield and more full load hours”.

The K110 2.4MW is based on the successful Kenersys turbine K100 2.5MW and was optimised especially for low wind speed (IEC III) sites: The new turbine has a swept area of 9.331 sqm and is offered with a 145m concrete-steel-hybrid tower from tower manufacturer Advanced Tower Systems (ATS). It provides an estimated 15% higher Annual Energy Yield at low wind speeds sites with 6.5m/s mean wind speed.

“For our projects in the Mid and South Germany this concept is an ideal solution to harness the energy even at so called low wind speed sites. We have proved this concept already at three projects in the State of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany”, says Dr. Frank Finzel, Managing Director of juwi Wind GmbH.

The new K110 2.4MW is equipped with the proven Synerdrive Technology concept. This is a Kenersys owned technology comprising a robust mechanical drive train and an innovative electrical architecture to deliver a smooth and steady power output and to cope with various grid and climate conditions worldwide.
